In general terms attenuation describes the reduction of the strength of a signal as it moves through a medium, be it light rays moving through water, sound decibels moving through air, or seismic waves through the earth. It is the interaction of energy and material - making visible the weight of air, the slowness of sound and the permeability of earth. Lending solidity to the intangible, attenuations provide a peek into the world around us while making known the limitations of our perception.
